What’s the Best Neighborhood to Stay in Mérida? Santiago, Centro, and La Mejorada Compared
Barrio de Santiago
Residential, quiet, with cobblestone streets and colonial houses. Ideal if you want real rest at night while still being a short distance from everything. This is where Casa Zunum is.
Downtown / Paseo de Montejo
The most touristic and lively area, half a block from Mérida’s most photographed avenue and the Monumento a la Patria. Ideal if you want restaurants, museums, and nightlife practically at your doorstep. This is where Casa Muliix is.
La Mejorada
The least touristic of the three, with a more local, authentic feel, near Parque de la Mejorada. Ideal if you want a more everyday experience of Mérida, away from the main tourist circuit. This is where Casa Horseshoe is.
Which one should you choose?
There’s no single right answer — it depends on how quiet or central you want your stay to be. All three neighborhoods sit within the historic center, a short taxi ride from each other, so from any of the three you can easily explore the rest.
